21:9 the new meeting room standard

Various display suppliers have shown 21:9 monitors at the recent Infocomm Asia show and projector manufacturer have responded swiftly with the release of similar format units, negating the need for blended projection.
Of course, it may still be of cost advantage to use 2 lower cost projectors and a blending system like Geobox to achieve 21:9 projection, in particular since PiP facilities and easy source switching and multi view can be integrated without complex wiring.

This article however is about 21:9 format projection screens. It is logical that placing such a high amount of information, plus team meetings images onto a smaller screen will incite communication and legibility problems.
Therefore a larger size screen is preferable.
Remember that the longest viewing distance to a screen should be not more than 5 times the screen height. In fact if you have plenty of data, spreadsheet and graphs, even 3 times the screen height might be the norm.

So if you have a screen, say 4.6m wide, your image height would be 2m and your maximum viewing distance no more than 6m, which would equate a small boardroom.

Placing such a screen without disturbing the ambiance of the room is one challenge, getting the screen into location and ensuring that the performance under room light conditions is perfect, is another.

Motorised roll down screens may be a solution, but the cost, installation and moving such a screen to location is another. Using a modular frame based screen would be ideal in such case.
The frame segments may be as short as 1.2 to 1.5meter allowing transport in a small vehicle and in a normal lift.
The projection surface can be selected according to the environment, from matt white to high contrast grey or ALR (ambient light rejection).
Depending on the screen frame a decorative digitally printed cover could be applied, covering frame and projection surface during non-use.

Screenline from Italy, our brand for Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Japan and Korea, offers a range of pre-sized 21:9 format screens. If ‘pre-sized’ is not ideal, screens can be made to order. The screen option may include a borderless design or a black border frame. This is only dictated by the client preferences.

The modular design further offers the benefit that in multi-purpose spaces, the screen can be removed and dismantled in a shortness of time and stored away safely. Sine the Screenline screens do not use press studs, the components can be put back together in any order, making it easy for inexperienced staff.
The set-up of an aforementioned screen, would take less than 30minutes.

Finally. The frame system from Screenline offers the flexibility for future format changes, increase or decrease in size and a high level of stability, twist and bend resistance, while maintaining a light weight.
