Projector Install edition – Fujifilm Z-series

The Fujifilm Z-Series projectors are unique in the typical projector line up. I have observed some interesting installations, which could take advantage of the rotatable lens, non-offset projection, wide shift and large projection size.

One of these installations was at the Fukushima National Disaster Memorial Museum and at the Tokyo Tower visitor area (previously written about).

As can be seen above, the projectors are mounted close to the top of the screen, with the image covering the whole wall area. The benefit of the 6m wide projection at just 2.4m distance becomes very obvious, since the actual space depth was only about 4-5m. The zero offset projection meant that the projectors could be installed without any tilt and minimal shift, benefiting the projection and the content, which consisted of plenty of data. Unfortunately the photography of the content was not permitted and the eagle eyed attendants observed this diligently. As soon as I pulled the camera out I was reminded of the no-pictures and video rule.

At the same facility Z-series projectors were used in a 360 degree set-up. The tilt down of the lens allowed a non-tilt projector installation and thus reduced distortions which would had to be corrected by anti-keystone correction.

Wide shift – One of the features of the Z-series projectors is the very wide image shift function. This allows to bypass obstructions in the way of the projector installation. As can be seen above, the aircon outlet was exactly in the location where the projector was supposed to be mounted. Moving the projector to the left and tilting the lens downwards allowed to bypass the pipe. The projected image could be shifted back to the original projection area. As can be seen in this images is the close distance to the screen. This resulted in a steep projection angle, which in turn allowed people to get closer to the screen without causing shadows.

In comparison to other projectors, the Fujifilm Z-series is relatively light weight and very compact, requiring less space.

If needed the projector can be installed vertically (see below) making better use of limited space or allowing for unique projection set-up’s.
